I have been looking for information about a (Danish) relative of mine who was a commander in the Siamese Royal Navy for many years, who died in 1914.
According to family stories at one time there was a statue of him in Bangkok, but I do not know for sure. Much of the information I have comes from this obituary (Straits Times, 1914).

1)The news “Tragedy at Trang” was originally from Penang Gazette and Straits Chronicle, 20 Feb 1914 P.7. The title was “Captain Drawned Tragedy at Trang attempte & Rescure fails”.（Source from 2 Jan –28 Feb1914 Penang Gazette, Microfilm no: NL1905)
2) You can search for Haurewitz (not Haurowitz) via
http://newspapers.nl.sg/. In the Strait Times on 31 Oct 1907, p2, Capt Haurewitz (not Haurowitz) worked on ship Muratha.

From the Straits Times obituary (24 Feb 1914) I have, here are the facts that might help a search.
He died 18 Feb 1914. Buried in Taptieng [according to Straits Times 21 Feb 1914 article.] Born in Denmark 40 years earlier (so born either early 1874 or late 1873).
'The deceased [Commander, Capt. F Haurowitz], a native of Denmark, was well known in Penang and on the Peninsula coasts since he was formerly in command of the gunboat Sucrib. He was for some years stationed at Monthon Puket, and had only recently left Penang Hospital where he had an operation.'
The deceased came out from Denmark to join the Siamese navy as a lieutenant in 1900. After serving six years he was promoted to lieutenant commander, and three years later was given command of the gunboat Bali. He had had several commands. He received the Siamese orders of the White Elephant and Crown of Siam.'
