เรือนไทย

มีใครพอจะทราบเรื่องราวของนายทหารเรือชาวเดนมาร์คผู้นี้หรือไม่คะ  เข้าใจว่าเสียชีวิตที่ตรัง  ในปี ค.ศ. 1914  มีญาติเขาถามมา  โดยเข้าใจว่ามีรูปปั้นของทหารเรือผู้นี้อยู่ที่กรุงเทพฯ  กรุณาดูข้อความข้างล่างค่ะ  ขอบคุณมากค่ะ


I have been looking for information about a (Danish) relative of mine who was a commander in the Siamese Royal Navy for many years, who died in 1914.
According to family stories at one time there was a statue of him in Bangkok, but I do not know for sure.  Much of the information I have comes from this obituary (Straits Times, 1914).

We have checked library collection and managed to find the following
information for your reference please:
1)The news “Tragedy at Trang” was originally from Penang Gazette and Straits Chronicle, 20 Feb 1914 P.7. The title was “Captain Drawned Tragedy at Trang attempte & Rescure fails”.（Source from 2 Jan –28 Feb1914 Penang Gazette, Microfilm no: NL1905)
2) You can search for Haurewitz (not Haurowitz) via http://newspapers.nl.sg/.  In the Strait Times on 31 Oct 1907, p2, Capt Haurewitz (not Haurowitz) worked on ship Muratha.
3) From book: "Directory & Chronicle for China, Japan, Corea, Indo-China, Straits Settlements, Malay-States, Siam, Netherlands India, Borneo, the Philippines, 1905" (microfilm NL 3338),  Haurewitz , Lieut, Navy Department was found at the page 583 “Bangkok”  under Foreigners in Government employ
4) Book title:  The Siam directory, 1912.

More information from the reader

From the Straits Times obituary (24 Feb 1914) I have, here are the facts that might help a search.

He died 18 Feb 1914. Buried in Taptieng [according to Straits Times 21 Feb 1914 article.] Born in Denmark 40 years earlier (so born either early 1874 or late 1873).

'The deceased [Commander, Capt. F Haurowitz], a native of Denmark, was well known in Penang and on the Peninsula coasts since he was formerly in command of the gunboat Sucrib.  He was for some years stationed at Monthon Puket, and had only recently left Penang Hospital where he had an operation.'
The deceased came out from Denmark to join the Siamese navy as a lieutenant in 1900.  After serving six years he was promoted to lieutenant commander, and three years later was given command of the gunboat Bali.  He had had several commands.  He received the Siamese orders of the White Elephant and Crown of Siam.'

A 20 Feb 1912 article from the Straits Times, under shipping arrivals,
"Sucrib, H.I.S.M. gunboat 550 tons, 146 crew, 4 guns, 500 hp.  Com, Haurowitz, Feb 18.  From Bangkok, Feb 14.  For Bangkok, Feb 22."

ในหนังสือ Directory for Bangkok and Siam  ปี 1914
ในหมวด Alphabetical List  of  Foreign  Residents in  Siam  1914  หน้า359  ระบุว่า

"Haurowitz, F., Comdr., harbour  master, Puket."

ส่วนที่กล่าวถึงเรือหลวงสุครีพ มีอยู่ในหนังสือเล่มเดียวกัน  หน้า 270  ความว่า

"H.M.S. "Sugrib"
Commander - Sub-Lieut. Yom.
Chief Engineer - Junr. Sub-Lieut. Joi."

ข้อมูลเล็กน้อยนะครับ  แต่เว็บของสิงคโปร์นั้นดีมาก

น.ท. แอฟ ฮาโรวิตซ์ ผู้บังคับการเรือมูรธาวสิทธิสวัสดิ์ เงินเดือนชั้น ๕ รับราชการปี ๒๔๔๒ (คงประมาณ ค.ศ. ๑๘๘๙)

แนะนำให้ติดต่อกับกองประวัติศาสตร์ทหารเรือครับ

ขอแก้ไขปีที่รับราชการครับ
พ.ศ. ๒๔๔๒ คือปี ค.ศ. ๑๘๙๙ ครับ

จากข้อมูลของกรมอุทกศาสตร์ กองทัพเรือ มีข้อความตอนหนึ่งดังนี้

พ.ศ.๒๔๕๕  ได้ว่าจ้างนายทหารเรือเดนมาร์กมาเป็นหัวหน้ากองแผนที่ทะเล และมีการ แบ่งกิจการออกเป็น ๓ หน่วย         
รวมทั้งได้เริ่มออกทำการสำรวจ โดยใช้ ร.ล.มูรธาวสิทธิสวัสดิ์ กับ ร.ล.สุครีพครองเมือง
